Day 3 of LA Galaxy Cup saw the club competition kickoff early in the morning while the Pacific Ocean marine layer enveloped the playing fields.  By the end of the days’ first games, the sun had started to show, the marine layer dissipated and competition began to heat up.  The Orange County Great Park and LA Galaxy Cup have attracted club teams from all over North America to take advantage of the beautiful playing conditions, and the quality on the field did not disappoint.  All games kicked off on time and were played in their entirety.

In the early games of the Boys 2001 bracket, FCB Escola from Northern Virginia were able to complete the comeback and overturn a first half deficit with the final kick of the game beating Capital Valley United 3-2.  Downtown LA SC were able to win both of their group games to jump to the top of the bracket.

In the Boys 2000 bracket, LA Galaxy Orange County’s side dispatched Oxnard United SC in the afternoon games, eventually wearing down the side and leaving with a 4-0 victory.

In the Boys 1999 bracket, Murrieta Surf were able to outlast Spartans FC, winning by a score of 3-2.

In the evening, participating coaches were invited to attend a symposium at Hotel Irvine to learn more about the Manchester United and LA Galaxy Academies, along with a special guest speaker, ex-England and Premier League defender, Danny Mills who shared insight on his favorite coaches throughout his career and how they made an impact.

The International Bracket (Boys 2004), other USSDA brackets (Boys 2003, 2006) and club competition brackets will resume tomorrow, with many games kicking off at 8 am in order for those teams to drive to StubHub Center for the first edition of MLS’s newest rivalry, dubbed “El Trafico,” as LA Galaxy host LAFC for the first time.
